Christmas Day Tragedy: Nine Dead in Osun Road Accident

A tragic road accident on Christmas Day has claimed the lives of nine people in Osun State. The accident occurred along the Ikirun-Offa highway near Inisa town and involved a trailer transporting passengers and bags of beans from Niger State to Edo State.

The trailer, a Mitsubishi Canter with plate number MNA606SB NIGER, was involved in the accident in the early hours of the day. The accident resulted in the death of nine out of the twelve passengers on board. The remaining passengers were seriously injured and were rushed to Orotunde Hospital in Ikirun for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adeleke Kehinde, confirmed the accident. He revealed that it occurred at Yidi Junction in Inisa town.

Following the accident, officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the injured passengers and moved them to the hospital. The bags of beans and the vehicle involved in the accident have been evacuated to the Inisa Police Divisional Headquarters.

The tragic incident has cast a pall over the Christmas celebrations in the region, turning a day of joy and celebration into one of mourning and loss.
