BRT buses collide in Lagos, several injured

Two Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) buses were involved in a head-on collision on Tuesday in the Dopemu area of Lagos. The accident resulted in several injuries and traffic congestion along the axis.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in an online video on its official X handle. The video showed the damaged buses and the injured passengers being attended to by emergency workers.

According to LASTMA, the cause of the collision was yet to be ascertained, but no fatality was recorded. The agency said that its officers, as well as other concerned authorities, including men of the Nigerian Police Force, were on the ground doing the needful.

“Effect of this occurrence on traffic is minimal; however, our officers, as well as all other concerned authorities, including men of the Nigerian Police Force, are on the ground there doing the needful”, LASTMA stated.

The agency also advised motorists to drive with caution and obey traffic rules and regulations. It said that it would provide further updates on the incident as they unfold.

BRT is a public transport system that operates dedicated lanes for buses in Lagos. It was introduced in 2008 to ease traffic congestion and provide affordable and efficient transportation for commuters.
