One dead, four injured as LASTMA officials, policeman chase driver in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Ago Palace area of Isolo, Lagos, when a driver who allegedly violated traffic rules tried to escape from the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and a policeman.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver was chased by the law enforcement officers, who attempted to take over the steering wheel from him. In the process, the driver lost control and rammed into some pedestrians.

One person was confirmed dead and four others were injured in the accident.

The incident sparked unrest in the area, as some residents protested against the actions of the LASTMA officials and the policeman.

The spokesperson for LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, told News men that the agency was aware of the incident and would give an update soon.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to calls and text messages as of the time of filing this report.

The Lagos Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Babatunde Farinloye, also confirmed the incident and said that one person was killed and four others were injured.
