One person was killed and seven others injured in a crash involving two vehicles at the Magboro Bust Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday morning.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that the accident occurred at about 7.50am and involved a Mercedes Benz ML350 with number plate AKD424HH and a Volkswagen commercial bus with number plate KSF934YA.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, said that the accident was caused by speeding and indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles at the bus stop.

Okpe said that sixteen people were involved in the accident, including eight males and eight females. Seven people were injured and one person died.

An eyewitness, Opeyemi Lateef, said that the Mercedes Benz driver was trying to avoid hitting a road user who wanted to cross the road when he lost control and collided with the commercial bus that was parked at the bus stop.

Another eyewitness who did not want his name in print said that the indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles at the bus stop is a major cause of accidents in the area.

The FRSC has called on motorists to be cautious and avoid speeding, especially at bus stops where commercial vehicles are often parked.

The FRSC has also called on the authorities to take steps to address the indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles at bus stops.
