Teenage housewife arrested for beating stepdaughter to death in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Adamu, for allegedly beating her 5-year-old stepdaughter, Hafsat Garba, to death in the Kandahar area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, during a press conference at the police headquarters in Bauchi.

CP Muhammad said that the suspect was arrested after the deceased’s father, Abdulaziz Adamu, reported the incident to the police on September 28, 2023.

He said that the suspect confessed to the crime without much argument, and that she beat up the victim as a result of alleged pass-stool that spoiled her clothes.

He said that the victim sustained various degrees of injuries on her body and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi for medical attention, where she was certified dead by a doctor.

He said that the police have commenced investigation into the matter and that the suspect will be charged to court for the established offence accordingly.

He also warned parents and guardians to be mindful of their children and wards and to avoid any form of violence or abuse that could lead to loss of lives or injuries.
