A secondary school teacher in Taraba State, Bassy Sardauna, has been killed by some students who were unhappy with his disciplinary actions. The incident happened on Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital.

The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday and said the deceased was a staff of Model Secondary School, Jalingo. The police spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, revealed that the main suspect was an ex-student of the school who teamed up with his friends to stab the teacher with knife on his way home.

The teacher was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jalingo, where he died from his injuries. The police have launched an investigation into the case and are working to arrest all the students involved, and they also appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could help the police in their investigation.

According to DAILY POST, a source from the school said the attack on the teacher was motivated by his recent decision to punish some students for their misconduct. The source said some of the students had been harbouring grudges against the teacher and seized the opportunity to vent their anger on him.

A medical staff at the FMC also confirmed the death of the teacher and said he succumbed to his wounds a few hours after he was brought to the hospital.

The school authorities could not be reached for comment, but some staff of the school who spoke on condition of anonymity said the behaviour of some of the students, especially those in senior classes, was becoming worrisome. They urged the police to ensure that justice is done for the slain teacher.
