The Warri Again concert, which is an annual event that celebrates the culture and entertainment of the people of Warri, Delta State, was held on Friday, October 6, 2023. The event featured many prominent Nigerian celebrities, such as Burna Boy, RMD, Ali Baba, and Shallipopi. However, one of the expected performers, Davido, was conspicuously absent from the show.
According to Amaju Pinnick, a former president of the Nigeria Football Federation and a FIFA Executive Member, Davido had been paid $94,600 to perform at the event. He also claimed that the organisers had booked a private jet for $18,000 for the singer. However, Davido failed to honour his contract and did not show up at the event.
Pinnick expressed his disappointment and anger at Davido’s behaviour during the event. He said that Davido was not bigger than Warri or any of the other stars that graced the stage. He praised Burna Boy, who is half Itsekiri, as the biggest artiste in Nigeria today. He also mentioned RMD and Ali Baba as legends in their respective fields of acting and comedy.
Pinnick said that the organisers had to find a replacement for Davido at the last minute. They settled for Shallipopi, a rising comedian and singer who entertained the audience with his jokes and songs. Pinnick said that Shallipopi was more reliable and respectful than Davido.
He warned Davido to stop playing games and respect his contracts. He said that Warri people were not afraid of anyone and that they would not tolerate such disrespect from anyone. He said that Warri was bigger than Davido and that he should learn from his elders.
