Celine Dion Faces Muscle Control Challenges as She Struggle Against Rare Illness

Written by Keji Evelyn

Internationally acclaimed Canadian singer Celine Dion is reportedly struggling with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a condition that has led to the loss of control over her muscles.

In December 2022, the 55-year-old singer revealed that she had been diagnosed with this incurable disease, which causes muscles to tense uncontrollably. Despite her ongoing battle with SPS, Dion has yet to find a medication that effectively combats the syndrome, as stated by her elder sister, Claudette Dion, in an interview with Le Journal de Montreal in August 2023.

On Monday, Claudette, 75, provided an update on Celine’s health to 7 Jours, as reported by the Daily Mail. She disclosed that the singer had lost control of her muscles, a development that deeply saddened her. “She’s working hard, but she no longer has control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she’s always been disciplined,” Claudette said.

Claudette also expressed concern about the lack of awareness and understanding of SPS, noting that some people have lost hope because the illness is not well-known. As Celine Dion continues her fight against SPS, her situation underscores the need for increased research and awareness about this rare neurological disorder.
