President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the new Secretary of the Commission.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on October 12, 2023.

Mr. Olukoyede is a lawyer with over 22 years of experience in regulatory compliance, fraud management and corporate intelligence. He has also served as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the former EFCC Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, who resigned from his position after being suspended over allegations of corruption.

Mr. Hammajoda is a public administrator with extensive experience in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri. He has worked as a lecturer and a banker before joining the EFCC.

The statement said that the appointments were made by President Tinubu in accordance with section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act, 2004, which empowers the President to appoint the Chairman and members of the Commission, subject to Senate confirmation.

President Tinubu tasked the new leadership of the EFCC to justify the confidence given to them in this important national assignment as a newly invigorated war on corruption remains a central pillar of his Renewed Hope agenda.
