Police Secures Detention Warrant for Naira Marley and Sam Larry Over MohBad’s Death Probe

The Lagos State Police Command has obtained a remand warrant to further detain singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and a music promoter, Balogun Eletu, otherwise known as Sam Larry, over the ongoing investigation into the death of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka MohBad.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on Wednesday in an exclusive telephone interview with The PUNCH.

He said that the duo were not arraigned for the case itself, but were taken to court for the police to get a remand warrant to enable them to detain them beyond the constitutional 48 hours provision.

He said, “They were not arraigned for the case itself; they were taken to court for us to get a remand warrant to enable us to detain them beyond the constitutional 48 hours provision, so that we’re not accused of over-detention. To get the remand warrant, we needed to present the people in court.

“And we indeed got the warrant, but I can’t ascertain the number of days granted yet; I’d make it available to you once I obtain it.”

The PUNCH reports that MohBad died on September 12 at age 27 and was buried the next day before his corpse was exhumed about a week later. However, many had accused Naira Marley and Sam Larry of having a hand in his death, an allegation that they denied.

The deceased left Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley on a controversial note last year, but his relationship with his former boss remained strained after that.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has declared another singer and friend of the deceased, Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as Primeboy, wanted over his failure to honour an invitation regarding the death of MohBad.

Hundeyin disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said that Primeboy was approximately 1.64-m tall, male, dark-complexioned with tribal marks and Yoruba by tribe. His last known address was 3rd Power, Oke Eletu, Ikorodu.

He urged anyone with useful information on his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or call 0803 688 5727. He also said that the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, had offered a handsome reward of N1 million to anyone who could lead to his arrest.

The statement read: “Following his failure to honour police invitation successfully sent to him since the commencement of investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Mr Ilerioluwa Aloba aka MohBad, the Lagos State Police Command hereby declares wanted Owodunni Ibrahim aka Primeboy.

“Ibrahim is approximately 1.64-m tall, male, dark-complexioned with tribal marks and Yoruba by tribe. His last known address is 3rd Power, Oke Eletu, Ikorodu.

“If seen, contact the nearest police station or call 0803 688 5727. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, hereby offers a handsome reward of N1 million (One Million Naira Only) to anyone with useful information leading to his arrest.”
