University of Ibadan Student Arrested for Raping Colleague

A 200-level student from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ibadan has been arrested by campus security personnel for allegedly raping a 100-level colleague within the university premises. The incident was reported to the institution’s authorities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The victim, a first-year student, had gone to a night class with other students for exam preparation. Due to a power outage, she moved to the Students’ Union building. It was there that the suspect allegedly assaulted her. The victim recounted waking to a touch and attempted to scream, but was subdued by the suspect who held her down, rendering her unable to call for help.

The assault was interrupted when another student entered the room, causing the suspect to flee. The victim suffered injuries to her neck, lips (due to a bite), and her private area.

Confirming the incident, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, affirmed that investigations into the matter were underway. The university is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and will not tolerate any form of misconduct. The institution urges all students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
