Nollywood Actor Mr Ibu Faces Another Leg Amputation, Struggles with Speech

Written by Benjamin Adewumi

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has called for prayers and support for two of Nollywood’s veterans, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, and Amaechi Muonagor, who are both facing severe health challenges.

AGN National President, Dr Emeka Rollas, revealed in a recent chat with newsmen that Mr Ibu has undergone another leg amputation and is barely able to talk. The association is closely monitoring his case, while also expressing concern about the deteriorating health of Amaechi Muonagor.

Muonagor has been hospitalised at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State, for over two months. According to Rollas, Muonagor’s health condition is pitiable, as he is currently a shadow of his old self.

Last month, Ibu’s family disclosed that the actor underwent several surgeries, and in a bid to keep his hope of staying alive, one of his legs was amputated. They added that he would be flown abroad for further treatment soon.

“We are resigning to fate concerning the two actors. As I speak with you, Mr Ibu hardly talks again and he has undergone another leg amputation,” Rollas said. “You will shed tears if you see Amaechi Muonagor now, his legs are completely paralyzed.”

Rollas is calling on all fans and well-wishers of the actors to join hands with other philanthropic Nigerians to support them in this dire time. He further disclosed that he had approved the sum of N250,000 to be sent to the ailing actors’ account from the AGN Trust Fund, acknowledging that it was not enough.

In light of these events, Rollas urged young actors to sign up for the AGN Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Insurance programmes.
